Coco the Clown was the stage name of Michael Polakovs. He was a talented acrobat, stilt walker and clown. Technically, Coco is not a clown but is an ‘Auguste’; this is a foolish character on the receiving end of buckets of water and custard pies. His makeup exaggerates his features, making the eyes and mouth larger and his clothing is usually over-sized. In 1951 Coco appeared with Jack Hylton's Circus in Olympia.
