Full image caption

Copper alloy pendant comprising a length of flat-link chain, a flat circular stud embossed with a head in a raised circle with a down turned rim, and a terminal of a flat crescent-shaped piece of bronze with a small circular attachment. Suspended from the chain is a small medallion with a head looking to the right. The head mimics the head of the emperor found on Roman coins. Below this is attached a crescent shaped pendant. Roman soldiers wore an apron of leather straps decorated with small bronze studs. The straps terminated in decorative pendants like this one. These aprons protected the soldiers without hampering their movements in battle.
