Full image caption

Roman ornament for a military belt. U-shaped copper-alloy flat mount with straight sides. An openwork swirled design runs right around the mount, contained within a plain border. At the ends of the two arms and in the centre of the cross bar are projecting discs, each with three lugs. Each disc has a central circular hole, presumably to secure an inset or to act as rivet holes. The projecting lugged discs, are commonly associated with brooch decoration.
