Large poster with "The Ladies Marble Swimming Bath, Goulston Street".
This poster announces the opening of the Ladies' Marble Swimming Bath at Goulston Street, east London. In 1845-47, public washhouses and baths were constructed on the site between Old Castle Street and Goulston Street. Forty years later, both male and female swimming baths were added to the facilities.
In 1989 the facility was closed and partly demolished. The site became home to The Women's Library, which incorporated the facade of the original washhouse building within its entrance.
