Domestic account book containing a continuous record of household expenditure with a description and cost of each item. Handwritten, possibly a transcript. 'Mrs Dodson's Account Book' written on the fly leaf. The book covers the period from 9th June 1746 to 25 May 1756 and includes all expenses paid out during this period including clothing, transport, servants, food & furniture expenditure. Hard covers covered with cream leather.
Martha Dodson (1684-1765) was the wife of John Dodson, a member of the Tin Plate Workers' Company, 'Tinman to His Majesty's Yards belonging to the Navy', and High Sheriff of Berkshire (1716). He died in 1730. When she came up to London for the Season Mrs Dodson lived in lodgings in or near Bow Lane; in Cookham she lived in The Great House.
