Shopping on the King’s Road.
Shops and shopping played an important part in popularising new fashions in the 1960s and 70s. The Kings road which had a Bohemian quality due to the presence of artists, writers and poets, was transformed by the introduction of small boutiques. These small and independent shops such as Mary Quant’s ‘Bizaar’, sold inexpensive clothes in an informal and often quirky atmosphere with unusual interior decoration and loud music. Carnaby Street became especially popular for men whilst the Kings Road was more popular with women.
