A print of a courtesan entitled, 'London Curtezan/La Putain de Londres/Cortegiana di Londra' and numbered 50, from The Cryes of the City of London.

There were several ranks of prostitute in London, ranging from the high-class call girl to the ragged streetwalker. The girl in this print clearly belongs to the first class. Her outfit, including a lace shawl and embroidered petticoat, mimics aristocratic fashions. Full-face masks, such as the one she is holding, were commonly used by prostitutes in the 17th and 18th centuries.
