Small face pot of Verulamium region, Coarse White-slipped ware. This pot was found complete. Pots of this type are found in cemeteries and areas of religious importance. The main body zone has concentric grooves with a face in the upper zone. The face consists of ears impressed into the surface and moulded mouth, nose and eyes. The eyebrows are rouletted and the bridge of the nose joins with the square-sectioned rim. It is not known what the faces were meant to portray- perhaps a human being, a god or a theatrical mask. Found at London Wall, London.
