Full image caption

Ring-shaped silver brooch with a pin across the centre. There is an inscription all around the brooch, which is tought to have been a powerful charm. It
says "+A+G+L+A+AVEMARIAGRA". "AGLA" , which was a magical formula used to ward off fever. It came from the initials of the Hebrew words "ate gebir leilam adona"' ("Thou art mighty for ever, Lord"). The other part of the inscription is in Latin and stands for "Ave Maria gracia plena", meaning "Hail Mary full of grace".
