Full image caption

This trumpet is a very rare example by the City of London trumpet maker Augustine Dudley. In this period trumpet makers were typically members of the Goldsmiths' Company. Dudley was made free of the Company in 1644 and later became Prime Warden in 1693. The trumpet has undergone a refit at some stage since its manufacture. The original trumpet would have featured a silver ball which connected the mouthpipe and the bell sections in the middle at the top.
