A portrait of Sir Jacob Acworth as a Boy.
Sir Jacob Acworth was an eighteenth-century shipwright, surveyor and commissioner of the Navy. He submitted a design for Putney Bridge in 1728 which was selected but probably later adapted.

In this portrait Acworth is portrayed as a young boy: carrying a bow in his right hand, he stands in the middle of a leafy landscape. Although the family records and the subject of the painting indicate a date of c.1700, stylistically the painting would be more likely to have been produced during the 1720s.
