Full image caption

Fragment of a plaster of Paris (calcium sulphate) 'erotic' relief tile with a heavy covering of soot. The tile depicts a man and a woman, probably having sex. The woman appears to be lying on her front with her skirt up around her waist. The man seems to be climbing onto her from behind. Only his head and torso survive. Most of the woman's torso and head are also missing, as is the lower two-thirds of the tile. From a fireplace on the upper storey of Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, 145 Fleet Street EC4.
