The Game of Life corner section.
A table game of moral improvement entitled 'The New Game of Human Life'. It was published on July 14th 1790 by Wallis & Newbery. It comprises of a hand coloured engraving mounted in 16 sections on linen. The game is divided into 84 numbered panels each representing a year of life. Each panel is illustrated with an image of man through the various stages of his life from No.1 'the infant' through to No.84 'The Immortal Man'. Manhood appears to begin aged 13 with an illustration entitled 'The Volunteer'.
The rules of the game are printed in the central area, 'the utility and moral tendency of the game' and directions for playing are printed down the sides. The game is in the form of a race with a strong moral character.
