Plate II from a booklet on Sierra Leone 'Interior of a Girls'-school', unsigned, undated, but probably published by the Church Missionary Society, 1850 or later. A white European woman teaches a class of black African girls, each with their copybook, at the Sierra Leone Female Institution. A black African woman teaches geography to another group possibly Sally Forbes Bonetta mentioned in text. Sarah Forbes Bonetta, (c.1843-1880), an African princess "of Royal blood", who "was rescued and brought to England [by Revd Davies on the ship Bonetta] before she could be sacrificed by the King of Dahomey..." and became god-daughter of Queen Victoria.
