Full image caption

Valentine's card printed with an uncoloured engraving of a man placed fully clothed in a tub surrounded by three women preparing to wash him clean. Above and below is written a comic verse which ridicules the man as a 'snivelling wretch' and warns him to 'check the o'erflowings of love' or be dub'd by the mop, and sous'd well by the pail'. This card is a later reprint of an original plate by James Kendrew of York in 1820-1830.
