Full image caption

John Galt was a missionary with the London City Mission and an amateur photographer. This is one of the many photographs he took to show the work of the mission, and depicts the mission hall in Grundy Street, Poplar where Galt was once assigned. A poster can be seen that advertises a gospel service to be held that evening. The mission set up many such small houses in poor areas and communities to act as a focal point for mission activities and as a refuge for those in need.
