Full image caption

Interior of haberdasher's shop. A dandified assistant cuts length of white muslin from a roll and bends insinuatingly towards a lady who is leaning her elbows on counter. She and her companion, who is seated on stool, both have bonnets with huge overtrimmed poke fronts in fashion of latter half 1818. Across the window stretches a line over which hang ribbons and scarves. Two other dandies can be seen about to enter.
