Doll with wax head and shoulders. This doll has a poured-wax head and limbs, attached to a stuffed cloth body. Human hair has been inserted into the scalp by the 'hot needle' technique. The doll is stamped with maker's name 'H.J.MEECH, DOLL MAKER, OLD DOLLS CLEANED AND REPAIRED, 56 KENNINGTON ROAD, LONDON S.E."
The London wax-doll makers had their own secret recipes, usually beeswax incorporating various additives; some of the mixes have proved most unstable, depositing unsightly secretions on the surface.
