George III bronze gilt commemorative medal.
This medal was produced by C. H. Küchler to commemorate the British victories of 1798. This, the reverse side, shows Britannia seated amongst a trophy of naval and military arms. In her extended left hand she holds up a small figure of Victory. Around the edge is the legend: 'MARI VICTRIX TERRAQUE INVICTA' [Victorious on sea, unvanquished on land] and beneath is: 'AVITUM TRANSCENDIT HONOREM MDCCXCVIII' [He surpasses the honour of his ancestors in 1798] .
