Full image caption

A man's waistcoat, with stand collar and no sleeves. The fronts are of ivory silk satin and the back of fine twill weave cream wool. The fronts are embroidered with brightly coloured silk threads in an all-over stylised sprig pattern. There is a border design at the collar and the closing edges, hem and pocket flaps incorporate a band of satin stitch in alternating green and brown, and a band of embroidered net mounted over purple silk. There is a repetition of a floral border worked in coloured silks and with leaves in chenille thread and larger scale floral pattern at the pocket flaps and below these to the hem. The hem is surrounded by vermicelli of french knots in brown and tiny pink floral sprigs.
