Decorated cap. This cap was found in the coffin of John Leschallas during the excavation of Spitalfields Church crypt. It is made in the shape of a gentleman's smoking cap and decorated with a punched hole pattern and pleating. The Leschallas family had their own vault in the crypt, containing six bodies. The majority of bodies uncovered by the excavation came from families with French surnames, due to the high number of Huguenots who were still living in Spitalfields in the 19th century.
