The Flip Flap. Coloured sketch of the Great White City, titled 'The Flip Flap'. Imperial International Exhibition, 1909. The Flip Flap ride and bandstand are shown in the background. The ride on the Flip Flap would cost sixpence. The Flip Flap was part of the Franco-British Exhibition at White City which was held to celebrate friendly relations between France and Britain, formalised in the Entente Cordiale in 1904. The place White City takes its name from the exhibition's white-plastered structures. The exhibition was designed by impresario Imre Kiralfy, who was the coordinator of the fair and of the Olympic Games that were held at the same time.
