Concert programme for the Irish Ballad Concert. Green coloured programme listing the performers at a St. Patrick's Day concert at St. James's Hall. In the 1890s there was an Irish cultural revival. It was marked by the founding of the Irish Literary Society and the Irish Text Society in London. The London branch of the Gaelic League was the largest in the country and vigorously celebrated Irish presence in the capital. It ran a programme of Irish language and dancing classes, summer outings and festivals, Irish language plays, a fair to promote Irish products and St. Patrick's Day concerts. They took place at prime London venues attended by up to three thousand people. Among its members were Michael Collins, an architect of the independent Irish state and Pádraic ó Conaire, an important writer in the Irish language literary revival.
