Mechanical penny toy fairground boat swing. A sailor-suited boy, with a boater and a long-haired girl wearing a red and white blouse and yellow skirt and hat. Both figures are sitting in the swing boat. Ernest King bought this penny toy representing a fairground boat swing on 30 April 1910. Between 1893 and 1918 he bought over 1,700 different penny toys and novelties from London street vendors around Ludgate Hill and St Paul's Cathedral. His collection includes a number of tinplate toys representing popular Edwardian leisure pursuits such as fairgrounds, playgrounds and the circus.
