On 22nd July 1962, Oswald Mosley attempted to hold a rally in Trafalgar Square in favour of the National Party of Europe. The police allowed the event to go ahead even though there was huge opposition. Over 6,000 people had gathered to protest and the meeting only lasted 15 minutes before it was suspended. 55 people were arrested after the crowds clashed and many people were injured.
