River training for Duke of Edinburgh award leaders, 1962. Duke of Edinburgh Youth leaders received their training from the RSS Discovery which was moored at Victoria Embankment. The Discovery had been used by Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton on their voyage to the Antarctic and so was thought to embody the spirit of adventure and necessary for Duke of Edinburgh Award participants.
