Four slaves are boiling down sugar cane to extract the sugar inside a boiling house in Trinidad, under the instruction of a white overseer who is stood back from the heat. The print appeared in Bridgens' 'Sketches of West India Scenery, with Illustrations of Negro Character, the Process of making Sugar, etc, from Sketches Taken during a Voyage to and a Residence of Seven Years in the Island of Trinidad'.
