A complimentary matchbook containing a strip of 11 matches which were available to ' customers dining in Lyons teashops throughout the capital.
J Lyons & Co was established by four immigrant Jewish entrepreneurs, Isidore and Montague Gluckstein, Barnett Salmon and Joseph Lyons. The first Lyons teashop opened in Piccadilly in 1894. During the 20th century the company became one of the largest catering and food manufacturing companies in the world, specialising in the mass-production of ice cream and cakes.
