The Inn sign of a bull and a face with a huge grinning mouth came from the Bull and Mouth Inn in Angel Street, Aldersgate, not far from the present site of the Museum of London. In the 18th and early 19th century, this was an important coaching inn, with a yard overlooked by three tiers of galleries. The old building was pulled down in 1830 and rebuilt as the Queen's Hotel. The sign hung over the back entrance to the inn-yard, which, in the second quarter of the 19th century, led to the Great Northern Railway's receiving house. The whole site was demolished in 1887 to make way for new General Post Office Buildings.
The sign, with the figure of a bull and a face with a huge grinning mouth, was collected in 1887.
