Detail of the inscription on a Roman military spearhead. This iron spearhead was found inside a well. There is an inscription made by punched dots along one side of the blade. It reads 'C VER VICT'. This indicates that the spear once belonged to the century or section of an auxiliary unit commanded by a centurion named Verus Victor.
