An illustration of a dinner held in the Goldsmiths' Hall, from 'London: a Pilgrimage' by Blanchard Jerrold and Gustave Doré, 1872. The Goldsmiths' Hall is on Foster Lane and the illustration shows the third, and present, hall on the site which was opened in 1835.

The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths received its first royal charter in 1327. One of the twelve most important Livery Companies of the City of London, it is still responsible for testing the quality of gold and silver through the operation of the London Assay Office.
