Workers organise large quantities of linen, which has been imported to London from Hong Kong.
During the 1950s, when this photograph was taken, record numbers of imports and exports passed through London's docks. Imported goods included tea, coffee, oil, spirits and spices, as well as textiles such as linen and silk. Once the goods had been assembled, they were stored temporarily in transit sheds or distributed directly to markets and merchants.
