Full image caption

Poster titled 'The Suffragette ' promoting the newspaper of the WSPU. In the foreground is an image of Joan of Arc carrrying the banner of the 'WSPU'. Joan of Arc was seen as the patron saint of the suffragettes. The increasingly militant tone of the latter stages of the campaign is reflected in the use of this image. Women artists working at the Suffragette atelier produced a wide range of visual propaganda for the women's suffrage movement, including post cards, banners and posters.
