Lambeth Palace, Lollard's Tower, 1883.
Lambeth Palace is the official London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury and dates back to the 12th century. Much of the present palace was built in the 15th century and the Lollard's Tower, shown here, was built in 1440. It remains much the same today.
This photograph was commissioned by the Society for Photographing Relics of Old London to form part of a permanent visual record of historic buildings threatened with alteration or possible demolition in the 1870s and 80s.
