Detail of Such Things Are. Colour etching on page 170 of: ' The story of London parks' by Jacob Larwood, inlaid and illustrated with numerous extra illustrations including portraits, views, costumes, caricatures and other engravings illustrative of the manners and costumes of the times comprised in the volumes. Published in 1877. This etching is in Vol. II of that publication, which is dedicated to Hyde Park. This satirical illustration depicts a member of the 'savoir vivre club'. They were known as the 'macaronies' for their preference for Italian food, which they had at their periodical dinners at the club. The 'macaronies were also known for their extravagant fashion.
