Full image caption

Two late Tudor hand crushers. Each of these hand crushers consist of two iron plates connected at each end with long screws. The screws have bolts on them, which can be tightened down to crush the hand between the plates. The top plate has a spiked piece of wood in the centre, which would be lowered on top of the hand.
