View of shoppers at a market on Petticoat Lane.
Since the 17th century, Petticoat Lane in East London has been the site of an outdoor market. Located on Wentworth Street and Middlesex Street, the market was - and still is - particularly known for its crockery, fashion and household goods. Its named may have derived from the petticoats and lace once sold there.

Visitors to the market, including a young child wearing a sunhat, an Indian lady wearing a face mask and a young woman, are seen by a stall selling London goods. The items for sale include flags, banners and, in the foreground, toy dolls of the Queen's Guards.
