Young speedway cyclist racing his bike.
Young speedway cyclists, known as 'Skid-kids', racing their bikes at Wormwood Scrubs. The sport began in England in 1946 and the rules stipulated that the bikes have no brakes or accessories. Several parks and open spaces in London had cycle speedway tracks to which the 'skid kids' and their supporters flocked. The children's film, 'Skid Kids', starring a youthful Barry MacGregor as Swankey Clarke and directed by Don Chaffey, was filmed in London in 1953.
