These two women, probably mother and daughter, sell earthen- and stoneware pottery from a basket. There is an air of almost classical refinement in their poses, particularly in their elegant hand gestures. However, Sandby's prints are based on observation. The women are carrying a heavy basket of ceramics between them and, so burdened, would have flung out their free arms as a counter balance.
