A silver-gilt standing salt of square form with a shallow circular depression, domed cover and urn-shaped finial, decorated with mannerist repousee floral strapwork, formalized blooms and ogee-style mouldings. The cover and base have the London hallmark and date letter for 1562, with the maker's mark of a pelican displayed. The cover has been repaired with brass reinforcing strips and the finial is also an early 20th-century addition. There are clear dwt scratch marks under the base.
