An almost complete tusk of a woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius), probably young at death. From the Middle Pleistocene deposits at Uphall Pit, Ilford, dated to Oxygen Isotope Stage 7 (200,000 - 170,000 BC). An early example of lifting and conserving fragile remains, this was formerly in the collection of Sir Antonio Brady. Donated to the London Museum by the Natural History Museum in 1913.
