Middlesex Hospital, Charles Street - Interior of Women's Ward. Coloured aquatint and etching. This print shows a women's ward at the Middlesex Hospital in Charles Street (now Mortimer Street). In 1792, Samuel Whitbread, the wealthy London brewer and MP, endowed a cancer ward with sufficient funds so that patients 'might, if necessary, remain for life'.
