Handle of a gold-hilted sword of honour: 19th century

Gold-hilted sword of honour, presented to Lt. Gen. Sir William Beresford by the City of London, together with the Freedom of the City, in recognition of his services in the capture of Buenos Aires in 1806. Fully hall-marked gold hilt has enamelled panels on the pommel, also on the grip, these latter surrounded with diamonds. The underside of the guard is fully inscribed with details of the presentation, and the leather scabbard has gold mounts.
