Man's buff leather hat with a high crown and narrow flat brim. The crown tapers towards the dome-shaped top which is finished with a central leather-covered button. The front is decorated with an embroidered raised coat of arms worked with a rampant lion set within a leather frame whose projections are finished with small green silk and gilt metal thread tassels. The crown of the hat, hat band and brim are all decorated with lines of chain stitch worked in gold coloured thread; these divide the crown into eight segments formed from two thicker outer vertical lines and a fine central line linked by diagonal lines that meet to form chevrons; the point of each chevron is decorated with a small leaf shape worked in satin stitch with an embroidered fleur de lys set between the third and fifth chevron. The fleur de lys is worked in satin stitch in gold coloured thread and finished with a cross and band of metal thread.
