Roman ceramic mortarium. Mortarium in a buff Verulamium Region White ware, complete except for hole worn centrally in the base of the bowl. The hooked flange has high beading and a pouring spout protruding beyond the outside edge of the flange. There is a horizontal stamp on the rim, SOLLVS F, for the maker Sollus. From group 53-56, workmen's pits, so more or less unstratified.
