Westminster Bridge and the Burning of the Houses of Parliament from Lambeth. Oil on canvas. Impression of fire which destroyed most of Palace of Westminster night of 16 October 1834. Strong south west wind which fanned flames is very evident, billowing smoke over Westminster. The buildings were destroyed by blaze and some of spectators who watched the scene from the boats on the river, are seen through Westminster Bridge arches. On the right is Westminster Hall and Westminster Abbey, both untouched and there are blocks of houses at the south end of Bridge Street. In the foreground is Lambeth shore.
