Selection of necklaces from the Cheapside Hoard. The Cheapside hoard contains over thirty necklaces of various lenghts. Most of them consist of delicate knots, stars, scrolls and foliate and floral links with the detail picked out in coloured enamels. Others include cabochon or faceted stones or pearls. Some of the designs are repeated, but each necklace is unique with different colour combinations of enamel or gemstones. These necklaces were very popular in the Elizabethan and Jacobean period and are often depicted in contemporary portraits.
