Struck bronze coin of the British ruler Cunobelin -AD 10-41/2. The obverse has the name CVNOBELINVS with a beardless helmeted head looking right. The reverse has the name TASCIIOVANII - Tasciovanus above a sow standing right upon an ornamental line with the letter F below. Tasciovanus was a British ruler who reigned before Cunobelin. This coin perhaps demonstrates that Cunolelin was a relation of Tasciovanus, the F on the coin possibly standing for the latin 'Filius' - 'son of'. Cunobelin's death disrupted the balance of tribal power in Southern Britain and provided the emperor Claudius with a pretext for invasion shortly afterwards. Found in the river Thames, Barnes.
