Full image caption

Large complete Roman roof tile or a tegula. This tile is rectangular in shape with side flanges to butt against adjacent tiles. On the top surface a neat semi-circle has been scribed, perhaps with a finger, while the clay is still damp and this is thought to be a workman's mark to identify his work for accounting purposes. There are also several pawprints across the surface of the tile. This tile was found at Dominant House, Queen Victoria Street, London.
