An Evening Scene in Green Park. Oil on canvas. James Hamilton Hay was born in Liverpool and moved to London around 1912. Primarily a landscape painter, he was particularly interested in capturing the atmosphere and feeling of the natural world. In London he met the Camden Town Group, with whom he exhibited in 1913. He joined the London Group in 1915. Many of his London paintings focus on the capital's parks and commons. In his later years, he worked mainly in the Lake District.
